RI Quit Smoking Campaign Launches Nov. 15th

The Rhode Island Department of Health will begin running quit smoking ads on November 15th. The ads will run through December 15th, then we'll take a couple of weeks off around the holidays and go back on air on December 31st to catch all those people making New Year's resolutions and will run through May 18, 2008. The ads will have 1-800-Try-To-Stop as the call the action. Ads that run in Spanish will have 1-800-Dejalo as the call to action. The goals of the campaign is provide resources for smokers who wish to quit, and to make the quitline phone number ring with calls from smokers seeking counseling and assistance to quit smoking.

This year's campaign will feature Rhode Island and Massachusetts sharing resources. Massachusetts is creating three new TV spots that Rhode Island will be running. Since the two states share a border, running the same ads reinforces the messages, especially for residents living in border communities who are likely to see the ads on both Rhode Island and Massachusetts stations.

The ads will be running on Rhode Island stations WJAR-TV10, WLNE-TV6, WPRI-TV12, WNAC-TV64, and WLWC-TV28. Ads will also run on Cox cable. The Spanish ad will run on Telemundo.
